Where are we in this relationship? What is our next step?
Step One: Where is this relationship going?
There are no “right” or “wrong” answers in this quiz; it is meant to compare the two individual responses with each other, to show areas of agreement and areas that may need to be discussed or dealt with before a commitment like marriage is considered. Here is the link to Facing Ahead.
Step Two: If you both agree you are seriously thinking about marriage.
Now is the time to start using the For Better & For Ever ® workbooks to answer questions and dialogue with your partner about topics/issues that you may not think to talk about. For example, if/when you marry, How much money do you think either of you should be able to spend without first checking it out with your spouse?
Step Three: If you are already engaged to be married.
Engaged couples can use For Better & For Ever ® as a marriage preparation program (which more and more churches are making a requirement). Even if your pastor is not already familiar with For Better & For Ever ®, he is likely to be impressed that you are wanting to use it because it is more comprehensive than most of the programs currently in use. For Better & For Ever ® is specifically designed to help couples address questions/topics that every couple needs to deal with before making a lifelong commitment to one another. Remember this is the purpose of being engaged, i.e. it is supposed to be a time of putting “all your cards” on the table so that you can begin your marriage with “no secrets” and “no hidden agendas.” The For Better & For Ever ® workbooks offer you hundreds of questions and most couples say that many of them are questions they never talked about before reading the books. For Better & For Ever ® helps couples prepare for Christian marriage (but it also takes into account that one of you may not be a member of the Christian tradition). There is a Catholic edition, a Protestant edition and a Covenant edition. The Covenant edition is a “secular” edition for those who are not members of any Christian denomination or may have no belief in a personal God, but are wanting to enter a marriage of lifelong commitment to one another.
If you are already married.
Many therapists and marriage counselors direct their clients to use For Better & For Ever ® to identify questions/topics that they need to deal with and then learn the communication/relationship skills that they did not learn to use effectively before (and during) their marriage. Also some married couples discover For Better & For Ever ® on their own, and use it for personal enrichment of their marriage.
